Mama Always Says

Judge people only on what they do,
And not on what they say.
Judge people only on how they act,
Upon how they behave.

People say so many things,
Things make believe, things true,
"Talk is cheap, young lady!
You gotta sit and view their do's!"

Mama's been round for years n' years,
Met rounds and rounds of folks,
"Talk convinces the talker, girl,
That their boastin' ain't no hoax!"

Don't get me wrong! Cuz' Mama don't think
Talkers mean harm with their glib,
She say, "Talkers think in terms of doin,'
All the good things they wish they did.'"

Now, serious-thinkin' Mama appears
And says, "If you're judgin' people today,"
She closes her eyes, then begs me please,
"Judge the 'doin,' leave the 'say!'"
